Must Eat Dishes In Mandalay

Hey foodies! One of the reasons why I like to travel to Mandalay is because of the food. Here I share the top 7 foods that you must try while in Mandalay.

Kho Taung Mont Di (MMK 500)
A type of Myanmar noodle salad inspired and originated from the Kho Taung village in Sagaing. It is similar to Nan Gyi Thoa and tastes really good. There are add-on fritters, jengkol, and fish cakes to go with the salad if you want. The jengkol is sticky and sweet; the fish cake tastes even better because it is not fried but boiled in the soup. Besides Kho Taung Mont Di, other types and sizes of noodle are available. We ate at Daw Jann located on the 87th street (between 26 and 27). The place is usually crowded as it is well-known so if you are planning to go, we suggest going earlier in the day
Milky Rice (MMK 500)
This is a must-eat food whenever I go to Mandalay because it is really rare to find in Yangon. As the milk from Mandalay is fresh and authentic, it makes the taste yummier. It looks like a frozen yoghurt and you can eat it with palm sugar syrup or just sugar syrup. For me, I like the palm sugar syrup more. The place we tried is situated in Zay Cho market, beside Myint Myint Khin Burmese snack shop.
Creamy Baozi
We ate this at Daw Aye Aye Than, north of Eain Daw Yar Pagoda. The baozi is self-made by the owner and it has been said by many people that this is the best creamy baozi in Mandalay. Made with cow milk, evaporated and condensed milk, butter and sugar, it’s really delicious. Cashew nuts, raisins, pumpkin seeds, and coconut are also included in this version. This place is open from 11 am to 10:30 pm.
Shan Tofu Salad (MMK 500)
This place is just beside the Milky Rice shop, an ordinary and simple local food spot. The tofu is soft and the price is so cheap and it tastes really scrumptious.
Fried Cricket
I was informed there is a fried cricket court near Zay Cho market and went there curious to see. They sell fried and raw crickets. You can start buying fried ones starting from 1000 Ks and it is served with garlic and fried chilies; the taste is incredible. For those who love fried cricket, be sure to check this one out. The name of the shop is Thazin Oo Fried Cricket
Shal-Shae-Shal Yoghurt (MMK 1500)
The name translates as the most special yoghurt. It is full of milk cream and for a person who is not a yoghurt fan, I really liked it. The place is popular and even celebrities stop by to get delicious yoghurt. It’s called Shwe Ywat Hlay and located on the 73rd street (corner of 38 road)
Avocado Juice (MMK 1500)
Situated in front of Seik Ku Cho Cho publishing house, on the 26th street (between 88 and 89), there is Hay Man Oo Fruit Juice. Here the avocado Juice (not blended) is topped with milk cream on top. It tastes really sweet and the price is reasonable. I also tried the orange and passion fruit juice and they tasted amazing too.
Mandalay is such a food city filled with lots of treats to relish. If you think you have some more to add to this link, feel free to share them in the comment session below.

Yangon ZOO

From generation to generation, a visit to the Zoo is a must-do activity for families, especially with young children. Not only do we spend time together, children are learning about animals, the environment and spending time outdoors playing. I remember the fun and happy memories of my parents taking me to the zoo, parks, playgrounds and other places when I was young. It gives me joy to be able to share and do these same things for my children. Entrance fee – 1000 KS There is a gate fee to visit the zoo. From age 2 to 10, it is 500 KS per pax and 1000 KS for adults; for expats, it is $10. The fee seems a little high, but it is for the upkeep of the zoo and to provide clean restrooms and other public facilities. There are a lot of sights to see and activities to do within the zoo grounds. Modern Monkeys Monkeys are always an attraction, because they behave like children, playing, teasing, eating, and having fun with each other. You can feed the monkeys with bananas...
